Deborah A. Rice passed away peacefully on January 27, 2018 at her home in Orlando, FL. She was born on April 16, 1949 in St. Claire Shores Michigan to Jay and Joyce Campbell.
Debbie was a 1967 graduate of Lake View High School where she was captain of the varsity cheerleading squad. Debbie moved to Johnstown NY in 1970 where she raised her family and worked for Fulton County in the Department of Social Services for 30 years. Deb was driven by continuous improvement and believed in higher education which drove her to obtain two college degrees in criminal justice and human services while working full-time. While the county was her career, her children were her life.
She was a loving mother and dedicated her life to her sons Stephen and Scott Mraz. She was “Nana” to her two grandchildren Brandon and Meghan Mraz who she loved very much. Deb was very active in the community. She volunteered for many organizations in support of her children. She was very proud of her success as the varsity cheerleading coach for Johnstown High School. She was married to her husband Steven Rice on 7/5/2003. The two of them loved dancing and traveling with one another. Most of all, Deb loved to spend her time with her family. Her sister Cathleen Warner was her best friend throughout her entire life; they were the foundational support system for each other and their families. Deb loved animals and enjoyed camping, fishing, golf and music. She had a beautiful voice, loved to sing and was a very proud member of the singing group: Bob and the Bobcats. She is survived by her husband, Steven Rice; Sons Stephen (Kristina) Mraz and Scott (Nicole) Mraz, Mother Joyce Campbell, sister Cathleen (Mark) Warner, brother, Jay (Catherine) Campbell; sister Ellen (Chuck) Royal; grandchildren Brandon L. Mraz and Meghan E. Mraz and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will be holding a private service at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. Family, friends, and others whose lives Debbie touched are invited to a celebration of life to be held in Johnstown New York on June 9, 2018. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Kindred Hospice or the ASPCA.
