MURRELL, Lowell, age 74, of Merritt Island, Florida passed away on Saturday, December 28th, 2019. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Milton High School in Milton, WV in 1963. At the University of Cincinnati, Lowell was the President of his fraternity Theta Chi and he received a Bachelors Degree in Design in 1969. That same year he married his college sweetheart Carole Kirchheiner Murrell. He proudly joined the National Guard and served throughout the 70’s. He then spent many years revitalizing neighborhoods in Cincinnati and he worked his way up in the construction field to owning his own general contracting business. Lowell and Carole were avid sailors and won many sailing races at Brookville Lake in Indiana. They enjoyed camping and playing cards with friends there.

In 1997, they moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida where Lowell owned a graphics business for many years. He was an accomplished artist and loved to paint Florida’s beautiful wildlife. Lowell began going to the Cocoa Beach dog park with his dogs and eventually became “Mayor” of the dog park. He advocated for the upkeep of the dog park and organized several Christmas fundraisers there to benefit local Wounded Warriors.

Lowell was generous and kind and full of laughter. He was a stranger to nobody and loved to tell stories to his friends and family or anyone who happened to be around. Lowell will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents Clark and Lorraine Murrell and sister-in-law Connie Lubbers. He is survived by his wife Carole; daughter Nicole Matchett; granddaughter Madeline Zeuli; grandson Samuel Matchett; brothers Edward and Terry Murrell; sister Carolyn Weaver; brother-in-law Henry Lubbers and numerous nieces and nephews.

There was a Celebration of Life at the Cocoa Beach dog park on Saturday, January 4th at 10am to honor Lowell.

There will be a second Celebration of Life ceremony on Lowell’s birthday, Feb. 2, 2020 at 1pm at 200 Cadiz Ct. Merritt Island, FL. 32953.

Memories & Condolences

Lowell taught me so much. My entrepreneurial spirit was groomed by him. He showed me how to work hard to play harder.

I met him in Cincinnati where he had struck a deal with my employers to get free prints of his sailboats in exchange for teaching me Corel Draw. He was so talented. His ability to see the colors that made up an object floored me. He managed everything with a grace and friendly nature that made you smile. I left my company to work for him while I was in college. My family and friends often mocked me for pedestal I put him on, but I didn’t care. He was a great friend who had lived life on his terms and loved every day. He loved his daughter and told me she was the best thing in his life and hoped one day I could feel the same level of happiness and joy as he did with her. He gave me great advice that I heed to this day. Never under deliver. Never accept less than you’re worth. Make sure to hug your kids and tell them you love them. Try to do it every day. And if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing. F*ck it. I wish more than ever I had gotten to see him one last time. To introduce him to my daughter. So he could see how she loves dance and life. And to thank him for his advice. My life is great because he was in it.

I first met Lowell in my freshman year of college at the University of Cincinnati when I joined the Theta Chi fraternity. Lowell was in his senior year in DAA one one of the coolest, down to earth guys you could ever wish to meet. He was in love with his eventual wife Carole and when ever she called the house looking for him he was resondedly jeered with screeching call out by virtually every one of "Lowell! Lowell!!" It meant that SWMBO was calling and he had to run to phone generally laughing and taking the abuse in style.

After graduating, Lowell, Carole and I actually got involved with Amway about two years after it was founded by David and Betsy Devos and had we worked the plan of selling SA8 Laundry detergent, spray on shoe shine spray and the ever growing product line, we could have been billionaires.
I was just thinking of low and had promised to track him down.

It was just two days ago that Paul (Fogman) Bary broke the news of Lowell's passing. I too was married to a dear Carole (same spelling) who passed away in May of 2017.

I send my deepest sympathy to Carole and their family. If Carole sees this please call me at 561 702 1105. I would love to reminisce the last 50 years. RIP dear friend and brother. Enjoy Chapter Eternal.

Lowell you are a gem! We love your kind heart, thoughtfulness and playful sense of humor. You and Carol made a beautiful team. We have memories of you turning the volume down as Carol saying loudly in her own key of Bad Bad Leroy Brown. Taking rookie Jim as your r‘Ringer‘ in the regatta sailboat races and you guys won. I wonder how many times strangers would come by the dog park and Lowell would stand up and say "Come on in". There were times strangers without a dog would come to the fence to watch the dogs because they were on vacation and didn't bring their dog and Lowell would say "Come on in". A lady came who had just lost her dog and she was struggling with the loss and not sure she could handle coming in. Lowell introduced his Schnauzers to her and she actually sat down and petted every dog she could. She said her sons would be very glad to hear she even came close to a dog park. "The Mayor" knew NO strangers.
